Also joining the warm welcome were the Deputy Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Pattaya Office; the Director of Terminal 21 Pattaya; and executives from Central Pattaya and Central Marina Outlet. The welcoming ceremony took place at Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya.
The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) is a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier accompanied by personnel from Carrier Strike Group 3, Carrier Air Wing 9, and Destroyer Squadron 21, including nine squadrons from Carrier Air Wing 9. The USS Abraham Lincoln arrived at Laem Chabang, Thailand, while the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG 121), an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, arrived and docked in Si Racha on the morning of September 2nd, 2026. The visit provides an opportunity for more than 5,000 U.S. service members to rest, relax, and travel around Pattaya between September 2–6, 2026.
On this occasion, Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet presented Thai-pattern fabric scarves arranged as traditional garlands, decorated with bows and a message reading “A Souvenir from Pattaya City.” The souvenirs were created by the Pattaya City Women’s Development Group as a heartfelt gift from the people of Pattaya to Captain Dan Dealer, Commanding Officer of the USS Abraham Lincoln, and the USS Abraham Lincoln personnel. In return, the commanding officer of the USS Abraham Lincoln presented a souvenir to the Pattaya Mayor as a symbol of friendship. The Pattaya Mayor expressed his pleasure in welcoming the U.S. service members and emphasized the importance of close coordination with Bang Lamung District and Pattaya City Police in preparing comprehensively for their visit. Measures include strict security arrangements, as well as close monitoring of the quality and prices of goods and services to prevent businesses from taking advantage of the visiting service members by raising prices unfairly or engaging in price exploitation. The arrival of the U.S. personnel is expected to generate significant economic activity, as the service members will spend their leisure time relaxing, sightseeing, and shopping in Pattaya after spending more than 200 days carrying out missions at sea.Their visit has attracted considerable interest from both the media and the public and is regarded as an excellent opportunity for Pattaya to stimulate the tourism economy across multiple sectors, including hotels and accommodation, restaurants, tourist attractions, and transportation services.
The Pattaya Mayor also emphasized that restrictions concerning designated areas and travel times are measures and regulations established by the U.S. side for the safety of its personnel while they are on shore leave. Certain places are strictly prohibited, such as cannabis shops and certain water-based activities. However, travel to Koh Larn remains permitted as usual. Some entertainment venues are subject to restrictions only during certain hours after sunset.
Pattaya City is responsible for coordinating with relevant agencies and providing full assistance with security and safety arrangements. Meanwhile, local residents, tourists, and businesses can continue to use public areas and operate their businesses as normal.
Overall, the arrival of the U.S. service members is expected to significantly boost Pattaya’s tourism economy, benefiting hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, retail shops, and various service businesses. The visit also reinforces Pattaya’s image as an international tourism destination and a welcoming host city, known for its hospitality, friendship, and readiness to welcome visitors from all around the world.
