Pattaya Mayor presided over the opening ceremony of Khonkhaw Wat Nong Yai

On April 20th 2025 at Wat Nong Yai, Mr. Poramet Ngampichet, Mayor of Pattaya presided over the opening ceremony of the traditional Nong Yai Kongkhao Festival. The event was attended by Pattaya City executives, the mayor’s secretaries and assistant secretaries, the President and members of the Pattaya City Council, heads of government departments, honored guests, and local residents. The event aimed to promote Thai art and culture, while encouraging children, youth, and the general public to appreciate Thai identity and traditions, especially during the Songkran Festival.
The festival featured various engaging activities, including a parade of angels, fairies, and forest spirits, as well as traditional folk games, celebrating and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the local community. Historically, during Songkran, villagers would gather both savory and sweet dishes in a communal heap as offerings to spirits. After the ritual, they would share a meal together, believing it would protect their families and properties. The festivities continued with folk performances and games. Any leftover food would be intentionally left behind to feed animals, symbolizing an act of merit-making.

เมื่อวันที่ 20 เมษายน 2568 ที่ วัดหนองใหญ่ นายปรเมศวร์ งามพิเชษฐ์ นายกเมืองพัทยา เป็นประธานเปิดงานประเพณีกองข้าวหนองใหญ่ โดยมีคณะผู้บริหารเมืองพัทยา เลขานุการ และผู้ช่วยเลขานุการนายกเมืองพัทยา ประธานสภาเมืองพัทยา สมาชิกสภาเมืองพัทยา หัวหน้าส่วนราชการ แขกผู้มีเกียรติ และประชาชนในพื้นที่ร่วมงาน เพื่อเผยแพร่ศิลปวัฒนธรรม และรณรงค์ให้เด็ก เยาวชน และประชาชนเกิดจิตสำนึกในความเป็นไทย เห็นคุณค่าในเอกลักษณ์และขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณี ในช่วงเทศกาลสงกรานต์
โดยภายในงานมีกิจกรรมที่น่าสนใจมากมาย ขบวนแห่เทวดา นางฟ้า ผีป่า และชมการละเล่นพื้นบ้าน เพื่อสืบสานประเพณีท้องถิ่นอันทรงคุณค่าในช่วงเทศกาลสงกรานต์ในอดีต ชาวบ้านจะนำอาหารคาวหวานมากองรวมกันเพื่อเซ่นไหว้ภูตผี และรับประทานอาหารร่วมกัน โดยมีความเชื่อว่าจะช่วยปกป้องครอบครัวและทรัพย์สินให้ปลอดภัย จากนั้นจะมีกิจกรรมละเล่นและการแสดงพื้นบ้าน โดยอาหารที่เหลือจะไม่ถูกนำกลับ แต่จะปล่อยไว้ให้สัตว์ ถือเป็นการทำทานอีกทางหนึ่ง
